Hi, I’m JD, founder of Overland Gear Authority. I grew up on Cape Cod as a second-generation commercial fisherman, where long days on the water taught me how much equipment matters when the elements turn against you.
That same mindset carries into the backcountry. Whether I’m driving a Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter with a GFC camper, backpacking in the mountains, or fishing remote rivers, I rely on gear that will not quit when comfort and safety are on the line.
My journey into the world of overlanding began with a desire to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, seeking solace and adventure in nature. I learned quickly that not all gear is created equal, and having reliable equipment can mean the difference between a successful trip and a disaster.
I built Overland Gear Authority to cut through marketing claims and share honest, field-tested reviews of gear that actually works off-grid. From tents that withstand harsh weather to cooking equipment that performs flawlessly, my goal is to provide in-depth insights that empower fellow adventurers to make informed decisions.
